I've been wanting to feature this set for some time but it always got placed on the back burner, and now I think I know why. Photographing these neon colored gems turned out to be a real bear. I'll detail my struggles in another post but for now let's cover the contents. The set is made by Juguetes Dinamicos de Mexico, S.A. The company is no stranger to the blog as we featured their Untouchables sets a couple of years ago. The bagged set with cardboard insert artwork contains one Century Series jet fighter and four spaceships in neon colored soft plastic.
All of these were produced by Marx in slightly less gaudy colors back in the '50s and '60s in hard plastic. I've noticed some eBay sellers refering to these as Marx 'prototypes': THEY ARE NOT MARX PROTOTYPES. These were made by the Marx subsidiaries in Mexico who still retain much of the tooling. When Marx made prototypes they were done in the same hard plastic that the production toys would have been made out of and certainly not in these garish colors. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
That 'splotch' on the artwork by the boy's head was a dollop of glue meant to hold one of the toys in place for display
