Britains 54mm Deetail Mounted Knight No. 701 - Modified?

Okay, I don't know what to make of this critter. He has the body of the No. 701 Knight but, to me, looks as if someone glued a large shield to his left arm making him a hybrid. Any experts out there that can help? Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
