Marx loved flags! They had them for just about every era of history their toys represented. Currently, for my Battleground playset compilation, I have an American 48-star flag and what appears to be a modified version of the German national flag from 1933-35.
(My mother-in-law told me while I was still over in Germany that they were not allowed to fly the German national flag, it was the law to fly the flag of the National Socialist Party! And, looking at photos from that era, you'd be hard pressed to find the national standard anywhere).
The Marx flag in my collection is red-white-black with vertical stripes, so it can't be the French national flag, which is red-white-blue. Sooo, did Marx use a bit of toy-making license to come up with something they could use for the Germans without offending too many people? After all, those Marx toy designers loved their flags so they had to come up with something!
The various banner's themselves were stamped and lithographed metal attached to one of several plastic pole/base designs with the poles measuring 6.25" (15.87cm) H. Be Blessed and Relish Life! Ed
