Ideal put out a whole series of small, cheap playsets starting in the late '50s consisting of a plastic front gate with two identical tin-litho side walls. Some of the sets were The Alamo, a castle, fort, Marine base, Dodge City, and more and they came in header bags and blister cards. For The Alamo set, there were no specific Alamo figures rather, generic Rev War/Colonial figures in red and blue were included along with Frontier accessories. A good run-down of the sets can be found at Toy Soldier HQ (see side-bar on right). What I accumulated over the years was the result of several different purchases, not a complete set. The Alamo compound gate is also a caricature of the Alamo Chapel facade and measures 5 7/8" (14.92cm) W x 5" (12.7) H. The walls are 10" (25.4cm) W x 2 5/8" (6.66cm) H. The figures are 60mm. Enjoy! Hi Hugh! People tend to fixate on Marx cuz they were the 500lb gorilla in the room, but most toy companies produced playsets. I do have T. Cohn (aka Superior), Plasticville, Littletown, MPC, New Marx and others and quite a few of them have ended up here on the blog over theyears.
