Marx Deluxe Futuristic Car #1 - Emerald Green HP

The '50s were an exciting time for futristic car designs. As the auto makers strived to incorporate jet age and atomic era design elements into their concept cars (and production cars) it seemed like every toy company wanted to show its vision of what the future held as well. If you'll remember the über iconic 1966 Batmobile was a modified Licoln Futura concept car.  It didn't matter if the toy company specialized in plastic or die cast their futuristic designs hit the toy bins in stores across the country. Here at Toys and Stuff I've managed to post quite a few of those classic toys but kind of slowed down a bit. Easily distracted and not wanting to get too much in a rut made me slow down the pace some, plus these Marx cars have already been covered twice before - sort of.

In March and April of 2013 and in May of 2015 we covered the light gray and light green repos made by Marx Toys, Inc., the '90s later day Marx iteration that collectors sometimes refer to as New Marx or Marx of Miami. For the first time I'm able to post pics of the original Marx furturistic cars from the 1950s. It's taken me several years to get at least one each of the four original cars but they're here at last. There are two major differences between the originals and the repos: the originals were made in bright toy-like colors; and the wheels on the wheel sets sit outside of the axle supports on the originals whereas the repo wheels sit to the inside of the axle supports. This will become clearer when you view the photos in the upcoming posts. Today's example is one of the deluxe versions of this car that Marx produced in the '50s and has nicely painted trim, while the regular run of cars were unpainted. What I don't know is - were these meant to be included in a deluxe set or were they separate sale items? In any case they're gorgeous! The car measures 5" (12.7cm) L x 1 3/4" (4.44cm) W x 1 1/4" (3.17cm) H. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
