HG Toys (Harett Gilmar) No. 867 Space Wars Playset REDUX - Now With Box

I posted this playset in 7 parts starting on 15 August, but at that time the photos of the box were culled from the Internet while all the contents were bits-&-pieces I had been buying over the past several years. Well, as luck would have it, a nearly complete set came my way recently and I can now post this thing with an original box. The set I bought had two missing Space Commandos which I added for the photos. As well, the set had two identical Giant Robot poses (albeit in two different colors), and for the photos I showed the two correct robots as shown on the box art.

These are the two Giant Robots that came in my set. It's quite possible they were actually thrown into the box when it was being readied for sale and distribution. Until I had bought this set, I was unaware that HG made a blue version of this robot pose.

HG Toys No. 867 Space Wars Playset - Pt 2 Space Station (Flying Saucer) - HP

The complete photo essay for this, with many more photos, was posted recently on 29 July. HG Toys is known for buying the tooling from other companies and then releasing the toys under their label. The top of saucer has the words "STAR STATION" / "X-5" engraved on it and I'm wondering what company and what set could have been the originator for this toy, as HG referred to it as a 'Space Station' not a 'Star Station'? In addition, the retractable ladder is way oversized for the figures included in the set which also leads me to believe the saucer was originally included in a different set with larger figures. Just a guess.

HG Toys No. 867 Space Wars Playset - Pt 1 Box and Contents

Okay folks, right up front, I'm cheating a bit with this next series of posts. How so? Well, I have everything you see in the photos except the box! The box photos were culled off the Internet. I thought it would be appropriate to show as complete and detailed breakdown of the set with what I have, vs. just a couple of cursory photos culled off the Web. Having all the bits and pieces aids in the endeavor to chronicle this vintage toy and provide historical accuracy. With the set number being '867' and with the relatively low piece count, I can only assume that this an earlier (the first?) HG Toys space playset predating their No. 877 Alien Attack Playset and  No. 892 BUCK ROGERS in The 25th Century Galactic Playset. With its contents, it lays the groundwork for those later sets. 

As I don't have the box I also don't have the opportunity to photograph all sides of it to see if there's a date listed. Also, as I've just posted a bunch of the pieces in detail during the past few weeks as part of the Buck Rogers playset series, some of the posts for this series will be a bit truncated.

HG Toys No. 892 BUCK ROGERS in The 25th Century Galactic Play Set - Pt 3 Figures

The  HG Toys Buck Rogers playset contained three separate lines of figures:

-10 25mm Aliens provided by LP Toys (these were also included in other HG Toys space playsets)

-8 HG's own 35mm Space Commandos

-8 40mm Character figures

HG Toys No. 892 BUCK ROGERS in The 25th Century Galactic Play Set - Pt 3 The Space Station (Flying Saucer)

HG Toys called this flying saucer a 'Space Station' in all of its space playsets that I'm aware of. It's quite a large affair in relation to the figures included in these sets and I'm wondering if they ever offered it as a separate sale item along with larger figures OR was this made with tooling from another company that HG Toys acquired (as is the case with other HG Toys playsets that I own)??? The station consists of a disc / hull, three legs, dome, and retracting stairway / ladder and measures 10.5" (26.67cm) diameter x 6.5" (16.51cm) H overall. While I've never seen anything other than a yellow disc with red dome, the box art clearly shows a blue disc with red dome. Molded into the top of the hull in two parts are: "STAR STATION", "X-5" as shown in the photos

The Space Station is quite large and that ladder looks out of place with those diminutive figures
