Safari Ltd Stegosaurus No. 284429 (2006)

We've already covered the Stegosaurus back on Nov 29 last year when I posted the photo essay for the vintage Marx version, but this Safari Ltd is of the newer, modern batch of more naturally colored dinosaurs that have gained in popularity over the past twenty years or so. These are also larger than the the majority of the vintage toys with this one being 6 1/4" (15.87cm) L x 3 3/4" (9.52cm) H. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Vintage Dino Profiles: Marx Stegosaurus

The herbivorous Stegosaurus (meaning: roof lizard) lived during the Middle Jurassic some 155-145mil years ago and would have been contmporary with the likes of Apatosaurus, Diplodocus, Brachiosaurus, Allosaurus, and Ceratosaurus (the latter two may have preyed on it). Fossils have been found in Colorado and Portugal.

Marx's version was one of my favorites as a kid and I still like them. There's a lot going on with this guy with those plates on the back ridge and the spikes on the tail and it looks mennacing for an herbivore. The Marx toy measures 4" (10.16cm) L x 1 3/4" (4.44cm) H. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

1991 Stegosaurus from H-B Productions

It's been a while since we covered any of these nifty little premiums from Post Cereals, mostly because I thought I had them all - silly me! We last visited these little guys in March of 2013 but apparently there's still a couple out there I missed. Although not necessarily Flintstones tie-ins, their fun, cartoony appearance is a definite natural for pairing with Flintstones figures. Although Post offered other dino's, the ones issued in 1990, '91, and '92 were the most fanciful and colorful. They were all made of a hard PVC plastic in a wide variety of colors by H-B Productions for Post Fruity Pebbles or Cocoa Pebbles cereals. Our latest visitor is a bright yellow Stegosaurus and measures about 3" (7.6cm) long. Enjoy!
