The ubiquitous 'prone firing rifle' pose is nicely represented in this 60mm sculpt. I imagine him to be firing over a dead horse as these are 'dismounted' cavalry poses. Be Blessed and Relish Life! Ed

Pose 2 from TSSD's Set #17 shows a wounded soldier laying upright against something. Marx had a similar 54mm pose and it's only fitting that a larger 60mm pose be offered by someone. Be Blessed and Relish Life! Ed

TSSD (Toy Soldiers of San Diego) Set #17 Dismounted Cavalry with Casualties 60mm (2010) - Pt 1 Set Packaging and Contents

I bought these many years ago when Toy Soldiers of San Diego was still a thriving concern. They were among the premier toy soldier hobby shops in the country and had their own line of toy soldier sets. Since then, the owner retired and the line has been taken over by McShaun's Closet. Traditionally, there were few casualty sculpts in the Little Green Army Man world. Marx did have several really nice ones, but the field was lacking overall. Smaller manufacturers have helped fill the void over the years and now casualty sculpts are fairly easy to come by. This particular set is appropriate for either the American Civil War or Old West and these bigger, 60mm, figures can be used with MPC ringhands if you so desire. The set has twelve figures in six poses. Be Blessed and Relish Life! Ed

More Alamo: Davy Crockett King of The Wild Frontier Lobby Card Movie Lobby Card and My Fall of The Alamo Set-up

Some years back I had been pretty active with collecting Alamo toys and stuff but for some reason never messed around with the toys, did any set-ups, or even blogged the collection until now. I mean, I've done Little Green Army Men, Civil War, space, and my trains but the Alamo toys lay dormant. Welll, time to put them to use. The only space available is what used to be a part of my old Marxville and Plateau Railroad and you've seen it here on Toys and Stuff as the area that my temporary train layouts and toy set-ups have been on. My plan is to one day turn that into another train layout but then if I do that there won't be any room for toy set-ups - what a quandery LOL Enjoy! Opa Fritz

This Alamo set-up was put together using a variety of manufacturer's products. There are original Marx (the chapel and some walls), Marx Toys (aka Re-Marx, Modern Marx, Marx of Miami, New Marx) walls and figures, CTS gun ramps and figures, BMC/Americana figures and accessories, a TSSD retaining wall, a few Wm Britains figures, and some figures and accessories from unknown manufacturer's. I'll post more photos as time permits.

Something Different: Americana's Gettysburg Playset - Pt 2 54mm Blue & Gray Skirmish - Fleshing Out The Scene

I'm not saying I'm slow or anything, but ummmm, yeah, okay, I'm slow! Six years ago I was hot and heavy into reviewing American Civil War (ACW) toys, but didn't really do anything else with them except for building a small diorama (since disposed of). The thing was heavy, having been built on the discarded end of a shipping crate! I do want to re-make this thing in a much lighter format.

Here we are six years later and I'm now finally doing the kind of set-ups I wanted to do then. Why the delay? At the time -2014 - the space today's display is set up on was home to my Marxville and Plateau train layout. One year later - in 2015 - that layout got dismantled, freeing up space for other things. But from 2015 until now 'other things' meant everything else but ACW. So anywho, here we are. Using Americana's Gettysburg playset as a basis (see yesterday's post) I pulled out one of my tote bins of ACW toys (I have about three bins - the one I used for this display was actually the handiest one to get to). The bin had TSSD, Armies in Plastic, Accurate, Imex, and Timpo figures. Another tote had Marx tress and rock walls and Timmee crop rows. Putting them all together resulted in this 'selectively compressed' Gettuysburg battlefield with some its more famous push points represented: Lee's HQ, Meade's HQ, Little Round Top, Devil's Den, Cemetary Hill, the Wheatfield, the road of course is not the Sunken Road as that was during the Battle of Antietam, but Gettysburg was a town with plenty of roads crisscrossing the countryside. A couple of things thing I noticed about my own collection: I don't have any cavalry other than some Marx pieces (in another bin) and I had sold most of my wagons because they were of the smallish type found in old BMC and Hingfat header bag sets. I'll be putting this stuff away again in preparation for another set-up, so stay tuned to this station boys and girls for another thrilling adventure of in The Cave LOL Enjoy! Opa Fritz
