Vintage Dino Profiles: Marx Revised Ankylosaurus

After reading my 'go to' book for dinosaur toys, "Dinosaur Playsets: Expanded Edition" by Jeffrey S. Pfeiffer, and plowing through my bin of Marx dino's, it's apparent now that the light gray Ankylosaurus I posted back on 27 Nov, was a revised version of the critter. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

There doesn't appear to be any difference when looking at these from the top or sides, you have to look underneath. The most notable change is the absence of the large circular mold mark on the bottom of the left front leg. What's harder to make out in the photos is that the revised Ankylosaurus has several added lines crossing from its left side to its right side on its stomach.

Vintage Dino Profiles: Marx Mold Group PL-751 and Ankylosaurus

Living during the Late Cretaceous, Ankylosaurus (meaning: great belly) was a herbivore found in western North America and would have lived alongside dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, and Edmontosaurus.  It's massive tail, which could be swung with devastating force against a predator's body, and armored skin were defense mechanism's against foes like the T-Rex. The Ankylosaurus is one of six in Marx's Mold Group PL-751 (1957) and measures 3 3/8" (8.57cm) L x 1 1/4" (3.17cm) H. Enjoy! Opa Fritz
