PIRATES: Excalibur Hobbies Pirate Fleet - Pt 1

The now defunct Excalibur Hobbies had produced a number of recasts like this Pirate Ship fleet. I vaguely remember Excalibur from back in the day but I have no idea what happened to them. There are a couple of facebook groups labeled for Excalibur Hobbies but they're insubstantial. Upon Googling it, a link to a website provided leads nowhere. All that being said, occasionally MIB examples can still be found out there.

This set has:

-Large Pirate Ship

-Small Pirate Ship

-2 Rowboats with oars, gangplank, and lanterns

-Sprue of MPC ringhand Pirates with accessories in green - a HTF color nowadays

When I took this photo I cheated! Only four lanterns come with the set but I culled a couple more from my other sets to outfit the boats.

PIRATES: Tim-Mee #5730 Pirate Fortress Playset - Pt 1 Accessories and Figures

I have to admit, I'm having a lot of fun with this Pirate stuff! I enjoyed photographing the Blue Box Pirate Ship playset but haven't yet set it up to play with my other Pirate toys. In the meantime, I have been photographing and playing with this Pirate Fortress Playset from Tim-Mee Toys. While there's no date listed anywhere on the box or instructions, the guys in the facebook groups date it to the '90s. Works for me. The next installment will feature the fort. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

The island measures 6" (15.24cm) W x 3" (7.62cm) H

This rowboat was in a factory sealed bag and there were no oars with it, nor are any pictured on the box photos. This, as well as the island and treasure chest, have since been re-issued by BMC Toys in a set which includes several other nice items as well

The boat measures 6 7/8" (17.46cm) L x 1 1/2" (3.81cm) H

The box says 34 figures - I got 35 - Yay! :-)

PIRATES: Blue Box Pirate Ship Playset #34100 - Pt 1 Overview

Here's a really nifty playset from Blue Box: the Pirate Ship Playset #34100. Blue Box has only been featured one other time here on the blog - a carded space shuttle - and this is my first large-ish item I have of theirs. I don't know what year this was released as no year is shown either on the box or the instruction sheet. If I had to guess, I'd say 'mid-'90's to early 2000's. Just a guess folks (in this case, the Internet was of no help). While the playset features a lot of details and imagination, my toy was bought used and suffers from a few minor cosmetic issues. However, the set is nearly complete - minus just a couple of small parts - and it adds another layer of interest to the pirate collection.

Here's everything you get in the set:

-ship w/two cannons

-dinghy

-frame to hold dinghy to the ship

-boarding plank

-treasure chest

-table and two chairs

-rack of ammo (cannonballs): I believe several are missing from the set, there's only five vs. the eight pictured on the box

-four barrels

-five 25mm poseable Pirate figures

-six small weapons to fit in the Pirate's hands. I may be missing some as the box clearly shows hatchets/axes in the hands of the figures and there are none in my set
