Mattel 2023 #HVJ40-HXD63 Hot Wheels 1/64 Scale Diecast 1941 Batmobile

Prior to this, the last Batmobile's posted here on the blog were several Jada 1/43 scale issues I bought during the lockdown when they were available at Target stores and those got posted in July 2023. Fast forward to a couple of months ago when these were mentioned by Paul A. on the Moonbase Central blog. Paul, who lives in New Zealand, sent in photos of his latest acquisition and I'm thinking, "When the heck did Mattel make this?" 😃 Paul explained how they made two versions of this car last year, an expensive one with figures for Comic Con and this lower priced version sans figures. After looking up the prices for the Comic Con version (ca$100 - $120) I decided this was just fine at around $15 or so. I like '30s and '40s style cars anyway as well as those originally drawn for Batman back in the day - before he got all fancy and hi-tech - so this was a natural. A car like this would fit in perfectly with the next Batman post coming tomorrow! (ohhh the suspense 😄). Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Mattel Hot Wheels 2011 1/50 scale #X3080 1940s Batmobile

I really love the look of the older style Batmobile's, from the 1930s up to the '60s. That classic styling is timeless and Mattel has captured it nicely with their 1/50 scale 1940s Batmobile from 2011. I now have the 1/64 scale version from Johnny Lightning and the 1/43 scale version from Corgi. HOWEVER, I'm not gonna plunk down the $300 needed for the Danbury Mint's 1/24 scale version. No way! Anywho, the Mattel version is diecast except for that huge dorsal fin on the hood which is a flexible vinyl. My example's fin is slightly warped but overall the car is still quite presentable. Nothing says 'Batmobile' like that Bat-head battering ram in front and the huge fin. That is fun comic book kitsch in the best sense of the word. Enjoy!

Mattel 2005 1/64 Scale #H6294-0710 Batman Begins (Batman and Tumbler)

Here's another of Mattel's paired offerings from 2005, the 'Batman Begins' Batman figure and die-cast Tumbler in 1/64 scale. I like this series because of the full Batman figure as we don't actually see enough of these action figures in the smaller scales. Generally when you buy a Batmobile of any type it's just the car, and every so often they plop a figure in the driver's seat. It's a shame because all the toy companies have been really remiss in including action figures to go along with the vehicles. I've ended up with several Tumblers in 1/64 scale but so far haven't managed to pick one up in my favorite scale - 1/43rd! I gotta work on that. For now now though - Enjoy!
