Back in 2000 the film "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas" was released to rousing, ummmm, disapproval :-( The film was a prequel to the 1994 film "The Flintstones" which was a box office hit but the 'Rock Vegas' incarnation was panned by critics and turned out to be a box office flop earning just over $54million on an $83million budget. If anything good came out of the film it was some of the licensed toy tie-ins like what we'll be showing in the next few weeks.
Today we have a clever little wind-up toy. Hatching Dino is carefully placed inside the egg, the egg is closed and a small wheel on the side of the egg is turned thereby winding a spring inside Dino. When the winding dial is released one hears the timer ticking and in a few seconds the egg splits apart and Dino comes strutting out! I've tried the toy on a couple of different surfaces and the foamcore the toys are placed on is kind of slick and slippery making it hard for Dino to actually 'walk' but after a few tries he cooperated just enough for the video. Speaking of which, today marks a first for Toys & Stuff - an embedded video showing the operation of the toy. It is a nifty toy and works quite well even if Dino does fall down sometimes :-) Enjoy!
