A Christmas Present To Myself: Giant Plastics No. 2907 Vikings MOC

Well, Christmas is over and done with for another year. Overall we had a good holiday, despite most of us being sick! The oldest daughter and granddaughter were getting over their head colds, while the youngest daughter and myself were a tad bit miserable on Christmas Eve and Christmas - not real bad mind you but we tended to take everything a bit slower. Normally I cook a big dinner on Christmas, but this year I opted for - PIZZA! Yup, I had the oldest daughter go to the local pizza joint and pick us up some pizza's and breadsticks! I like! 😄

As Christmas is really about the kids, I stress to the family about not buying stuff for me or the wife,  instead, we concentrate on the granddaughter. However, I did break down and buy myself a MOC set of Viking figures made by GIANT Plastics Corp. and I am stoked!! This is the first carded set of GIANT toys I've actually seen in person or had since I was a kid back in the '60s!! This set contains only figures - no longship, no catapults, no siege towers, no fort - but it is terrific! The way the figures are packaged makes it difficult to determine the piece count, but I make it out to be ca20-25 foot and two mounted warriors. Enjoy! Opa Fritz!

Sunjade Spearman on Foot - Silver SP

Here's the last figure from Sunjade's Viking Set No. 30. I've got set No. 31 all photographed but the pics haven't been edited yet, so we may have a day or so with no posts. We'll see. Until then - Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

Sunjade Spearman on Foot - Black SP

While the two Sunjade Spearmen may be the same sculpts, they do give you two different types of spears in the set. This warrior is brave, wearing only what appears to be a leather cap vs. a metal skull cap! Maybe he figures all that hair is protection enough :-)  Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

Sunjade Archer on Foot - Silver SP

Here's the Sunjade Archer on Foot in silver. It's funny, but I'll take the photos, edit and post but sometimes some of the details kind just fly by me without any notice. I posted this pic in one of my fb groups and he made a funny observation about the ';armor piercing' arrow head! Yup, that arrow head is a big 'un for sure! But hey, he's wearing the right helmet :-) Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

Sunjade Archer on Foot - Black SP

Here's the Sunjade Archer in black with - OMG - a correct helmet (someone at Sunjade must've been sleeping when they approved this) Okay, that was sarcasm for those of you who may not have recognized it. Many (many) years ago, ever since I learned that Vikings didn't actually wear horned helmets it always bothered me to see modern era toys with them on. Toys made during the '50 & '60s when I grew up would not have looked out of place in horned helmets with what we understood to know then. Of course scholars knew but somehow the toy industry never caught on. But toys made now seem to perpetuate an unfortunate myth and I would ask toy makers to TRY and make more historically accurate figures. Okay, that being said, a little snip with the knife or razor blade will cure these Vikings of their horned helmet scourge!! Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
