Although we've covered some nice vintage toy cars here at Toys and Stuff, Tootsietoy's have been largely overlooked. I guess it's because most of our collection is plastic but I sure do remember Tootsietoys quite fondly as a kid having had a few cars, trucks, and planes back in the day. The company making them was known as the Dowst Manufacturing Company out of Chicago, Illinois. The company was actually owned by the Shure Bros. but after they acquired Dowst in 1926 the name 'Dowst' remained. They remained a popular manufacturer of die cast toys since the '20s and are now owned by J. Lloyd International, Inc, and now, as in 1926, are still based out of Chicago although much of the manufacturing is done in Asia.
Today's offering was apparently from a series that Tootsietoy did in the 1960s and I've been wanting to gather a few 1920's & '30s styled vehicles to go along with some of the vintage paper buildings we've been posting here and this Ford Model T fits the bill nicely. I've got some ideas bouncing around in my noggin for future display projects and want to be prepared. The car measures 3" (7.6cm) L x 1 3/8" (3.5cm) W x 1 1/4" 3.2cm) H and is approx 1/43 scale. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
