One of the biggest problems with toy train accessories is the combination of heat and plastic. It was bad enough when the toys were new 50+ years ago but with age the plastics become more susceptible to the heat generated by the bulbs. Especially when the bulb has heat a fairly liquid enough for it to bubble. My suggestion - never hook the light up UNLESS you use a low voltage setting just enough to light up the tube but not hot enough to cause the liquid to bubble. K-Line made a later day repo that was more suited to the task.
Any idea on a suitable replacement plastic used in the Marx electric track switches. These have a bulb inside and a pieces of red and green plastic strips bent into a U shape. These would slide with the switch gear back and forth over the bulb to indicate direction. I'd like to fix the pair I've got for the grandchild.
ReplyDeleteI know what you're talking about but I don't believe there's an actual replacement for it. I tend to do very few repairs myself having no time and being a klutz!! HOWEVER, you can try Grossman's. He carries many spare parts for Marx repairs: http://www.trainpartsformarx.com/
