Marx included a sprue (or two, I'm not sure how many) of soft plastic accessories - essentially odds-&-ends, to compliment the other toys in the Battleground playsets. There were lots of small pieces: pistols, BAR's, M1 Garand rifles, carbines, grease guns, bazookas, recoilless rifles, tripod mounted MG's, web belts, trenching tools (aka shovels), and this two-piece soft plastic mortar. You got a lot of bang for your buck, a ton of play value in these sets. Be Blessed and Relish Life! Ed
