Marx Battleground and Training Center Playset Pieces - Marx Exploding Machine Gun Nest HP

Here's yet another Marx Battleground sandbag emplacement, but this one is action packed. When a heavy enough object hits the trigger mechanism (missing from my sample), it releases the spring activated 'exploding' mechanism, causing the two top pieces to fly upward and scatter whatever was sitting on them. My sample is a hybrid consisting of two same-colored marbled pieces, a caramel brown piece bought separately, and the spring mechanism (also bought separately). These things are very HTF complete and without any broken pieces. As a result, they command premium prices and that's why mine is a hybrid - having pieced it together over the course of several years for a reasonable amount of dinero! In this photo from Toy Soldier HQ, you can see the trigger piece. It's the piece that looks like a ping-pong paddle with a 'starburst' sticker on it.

One of the really nice aspects of Marx's Battleground sets was the diverse amount of accessories. They weren't only about tanks and troops duking it out, the fields of battle were strewn with multiple emplacements, obstacles, loose weapons, and support pieces and Marx was the only company which did it to this extent.

Not long ago I posted Marx's 'J' or 'L' sandbag emplacement. The one being posted today is referred to as their 'Large' sandbag emplacement although in truth it lays right in the middle between the J/L and a smaller one (yet to be posted). This one measures: 4.5" (11.43cm) W x 4" (10.16cm) D x 1.125" (2.85cm) H. When teamed up with Marx's hard plastic mortar (which we'll cover in a separate post), and mortar round crate, this is an awesome mortar emplacement. Be Blessed and Relish Life! Ed

Marx Battleground and Training Center Playset Pieces - Marx Sandbag Emplacement 'J' or 'L'

This sandbag emplacement is one of several Marx made. Mine is a marbled caramel/gray color and has a little chip on the inside bottom, but is quite serviceable overall. It measures: 6" (15.24cm) W x 2" (5.08cm) W. One claim was that this was made for Marx miniature playsets and was made to represent a mountain. Okay, but it looks more like  a sandbag emplacement than any mountain. I haven't gone through all of my Sears catalogs yet to see if it was in fact part of a miniature playset piece or from one of Marx's Battleground sets. Be Blessed and Relish Life! Ed
