Moritz-Gottschalk Take-a-Part Wooden Castle

Okay, yet again I'm gonna claim complete and total ignorance of the subject I'm featuring. Not castles, but rather toy castles. More specifically toy castles made by Moritz-Gottschalk. I've seen their products offered up on fleaBay all the time but I really have no clue as to their entire toy line. I'm not even 100% sure that today's featured castle is one of theirs. But hey, here it is for your perusal nonetheless. The edifice breaks apart and stores in the wooden base which also serves as a box. The wooden square tower, walls, and gate connect to the base via small pins. The remaining pieces simply rest atop the base and can be switched around at will. A chain permanently connects the gate to the trap door, and upon storage it must be squeezed through that door to fit in the box. I believe the large round tower is missing either a witches hat cupola or perhaps a crenelated platform. I don't have pictures to show a complete toy so I'm guessing on that point. The castle measures 12" (30.48cm) W x 12 1/2" (31.75cm) D x 10 1/2" (26.67cm) H. I haven't had time to pose it with any figures but it looks to be compatible with anything from 45mm-54mm figures. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

  1. Thats a gorgeous toy Ed! So evocative of childhood afternoons playing castles and knights. I certaianly had one but mine may have been made out of plyboard. It may even have been home-made! Making a castle or a fort for his son was a rite of passage for many Dads and Grandads back then wasn't it!

    1. I'm afraid neither my dad, nor any other in our neighborhood that I'm aware of made castles for their offspring :-( But I did have toy castles. I had the Marx HO scale castle ("hand painted by artists") as well as a couple of Giant of Hong Kong brand, but no large ones as I recall. A quick Googling of Moritz-Gottschalk does reveal a plethora of designs.
