I latched on to this Marx Apollo Lunar Landing Miniature Playset some years back and it was really fascinating. I half-heartedly pursued getting more of these but did manage to get a few with each one turning out to be slightly different than the others. They all share some commonalities like having three 25mm figures per set, a land rover or Moon Buggy of sorts, terrain pieces and a wonderfully printed backdrop. They come in window display boxes with three sided diorama-like inserts with all the pieces either glued or attached by strings/wires.
The figures are downsized versions of the Marx 54mm astronauts available in their large playsets while the vehicles appear to be unique to these sets I have not seen them as larger versions in anything else Marx produced but I could've missed something - after all Marx made a gazillion toys! The terrain pieces were found in a number of miniature playsets. The set featured today does have a couple of minor issues: the vehicle is missing it's wheels and one of the astronauts is bent over at a 90° angle, the box is a tad bent, and the clear plastic 'window' is nearly all separated from the box. Still a wonderful set from the Space Race Age. Enjoy! Opa Fritz
Okay - Moon Rover, Moon Buggy, Lunar Roving Vehicle, Lunopod? What's your favorite term for these? They're about 2 1/4 (5.71cm)" L x 1" (2.54cm) W.
Mine is missing the wheels
This 25mm figure is bent over and should look like...
...this one. This is the 54mm version
What follows is random shots of the set diorama from a variety of angles, just cuz :-)
How much is it worth
