Welll, the Hershey's package I was waiting for, and which was supposed to be delivered over a week ago, has finally arrived. It got hung up in Missouri for days before finally being sent EASTWARD to the Chicago Regional Distribution Center, then being sent on its way SOUTHWESTWARD to Arizona, before finally trundling its way NORTHWARD to Vegas. GOOD F*N GRIEF!
Anywho, it's here now and I'm pleased as punch. For years I thought this set was one which was cataloged but never produced. But then a couple of years ago I came across the 'AB" set of diesels, which only came in this set. They were loose - no box - but I bought them and they looked and worked great. The Heavy Hauler that came with this set was a departure from the norm in that it was a container truck, not the standard trailer. It too was something that I thought I'd never find - until a couple of months ago until one landed in my lap so to speak. I already had the separate sale containers to go with the truck. The bottom line is, for the past several years I've been gathering all the bits and pieces to the set, one piece at a time because the complete set, with box, was nowhere to be had...
...until a few weeks ago! This is the very first boxed set I've seen even after years of searching! There couldn't have been many produced and boy did I scarf it up quick!! So now, I basically have a complete boxed set as well as nearly all the items in the set which I had bought piece-by-piece over the years.
The set first appeared in the 1997 K-Line First Edition catalog as kind of an afterthought, sharing space on the page with Coca-Cola, NABISCO, and Heinz.
1997 catalog extract
It appeared again in the 1998 First Edition catalog...
...and lastly in the 1999 First Edition catalog
All things considered, K-Line's Hershey's products had a darn good run, having been cataloged from 1991 to 1999 (with the exception of 1996 for which I could find no reference - yet). This was, IMO, a Super Set. It had brand new engines, a couple of new cars, new Heavy Hauler tractor-trailer, new containers (for use with the Heavy Hauler), billboards, railroad station, Hershey's store, track and transformer. K-Line certainly let Hershey's go out with a bang on this one. Be Blessed and Relish Life! Ed
My set was sold through JC Penney's department store for $199.99 back in 19999.
