Today on Sci-Fi and Fantasy Saturday we continue our look at Play Along Toys, Armies of Middle Earth, Lord of The The Rings, Soldiers and Scenes Series -phew, say that ten times fast!!! :-) The series, all licensed figures from Peter Jackson'e ground breaking "Lord of The Rings" trilogy movies, rode the wave of popularity of the movies and were released in what the company called 'Waves' appropriately enough. There were seven 'waves' issued from 2003 to 2005. When these figures were in production Play Along had several concurrently running series along with a myriad of exclusive items made for K*B Toys, Toys 'R' Us, ComicCon, etc. The series are as follows:
- Singles - as the name implies one single figure- Warriors and Battle Beasts featuring an animal with rider
- Soldiers and Scenes featuring three figures
- Weapons and Warriors featuring a large weapon of some sort, like a
battering ram, and several figures
- Battle Scenes (Environments with Figures) which are essentially
ready-made dioramas of a specific interior scene in the movie
- Deluxe Battle Scenes (Environments with Figures) which are
essentially ready-made dioramas of a specific exterior scene in the movie
- Super Deluxe Battle Scene are best described as playsets (not really dioramas)
