MPC Flying Helicopter With Launching Station

Sorry for the break in posts over the past few days but, yeah well - busy!! :-)  Anywho, I'm still on a MPC  kick and there's a method to my madness. Do you remember when I posted all that military gear which culminated in a particular playset? Welllll, here we go again. All the things I've been posting of late are heading towards that direction - a particular MPC playset. Can you guess which one? hahahaha

Okay, nuff said. This toy follows on the heels of other similar toys of the era. It was a'thing' back then to try and launched helicopters via spring-wound mechanism. Another good example is  Lionel's launching helicopter car for their train sets. These cars were nice in theory but they lacked the kind of sustained power helicopter's need for real flight. Basically you wind up the ratchet, set the helicopter in place, release the pawl and up it goes. For about 3 feet and a two second flight! Then it comes crashing down again! As toys go it's nice for what you got, but here we are some 50+ years later and as a collectible toy there are issues. The pawl (or release lever shown on the top of the Launching Station) is often times broken and the radar is often missing or broken, and the helicopter rotor blades get broken from all those hard landings.

The toy looks nice with its faux radar and Huey-outline helicopter. The launching station measures 4 3/4" (12.06cm) W x 3 1/4" (8.25cm) D x 3 1/2" (8.89cm) H and the helicopter fuselage measures 5 1/4" (13.33cm) L x 2 1/4" (5.71cm) W x 2 1/4" (5.71cm) H with a rotor span of 6 1/2" (16.51cm). Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
