Vintage Dino Profiles: Marx Allosaurus

The Allosaurus (meaning: different lizard) was a large bipedal predator which lived 155-145 mil years ago during the Late Jurassic period. One could say this guy was a dress rehearsal for the T-Rex which came  much later. Most fossil remains come from western North America but some have been found in Portugal as well. There has been evidence of Stegosaurus tail spike wounds in Allosaurus vertebrae so that means Steggie's were contemporaries (as well as Apatosaurus, Diplodocus, Brachiosaurus, and Ceratosaurus). Marx's version - which measures 3" (7.62cm) L x 2 3/4" (6.98cm) H - stands in an upright position but we now know that they more than likely had a more horizontal gait, with a longer tail than Marx's toy that acted as a counterbalance to the rest of its frame. You'll notice that this guy, like Marx's first attempt at a T-Rex, has a pot belly - Marx's dino's were well fed!!! Enjoy! Opa Fritz
