Halco Western Cap Pistols x 2

These Halco cap pistols were added to the collection recently and unlike my TootsieToy Pony Boys, these are quite a bit smaller. I know nothing about the company but Halco appears to have been major player in the cap gun arena alongside Hubley, Mattel, Marx, and Nichols. These are on the small size of the Western toy pistol spectrum at 8 1/4" (20.95cm) L. They are more 'child sized' compared with the Pony Boys which are 9 3/4" (24.76cm) L. Fortunately these are fully functional, as sometimes these old cap guns no longer 'shoot' - pull the trigger and the hammer simply doesn't cycle and fire - but these work just fine. The caps are loaded on the side of the pistol by swinging up the bullet 'chamber' and inserting the cap roll. According to my sources on facebook these are a fairly universal pistol. Where the rectangular scrollwork below the chamber is can be altered to read 'MARSHAL' or 'PINTO' and apparently the tooling is still around and being used for new production. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Rocky Jones New World's - Pt 1

Back in June 2016 I posted four photos of the Builder's Science Rocky Jones XV2 the Orbit Jet taking off from four different planets. They were all the same basic photo layout, only the background was changed. These four photos were meant to be the start of a new series but you know how I am - easily distracted - and I didn't start that series until this month! Okay, fine. Here's the first of that four part Rocky Jones series. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Ringo Toys (Ideal) Set No. D-032 Chuck Wagon - MOC

Here's a special treat for those of you who like mint toys in their packaging. This Ideal Chuck Wagon was sold under the 'Ringo Toys' masthead on a blister pack and is a wonderful example of Ideal's work. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

I love the blue and white color scheme

Here we see the settler's wife at the lower left. This figure is VHTF

Emergency Landing

Having met the enemy in battle, our scarred pilot has made an emergency landing on a nearby moon. His enemy will claim a victory this time, but our pilot will be rescued and his craft recovered and repaired and he'll fly and fight another day! Enjoy! Opa Fritz

A slightly modified Pyro X-100 Space Scout. A previous owner has added a pilot (which BTW sits at a distinct forward lean making him appear to be wounded) and 'kill' marks on the side of the fuselage.

Payton Log Cabin - Brown/Brown SP

Another Payton cabin showed up as part of a job lot. This one is brown-on-brown. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

It didn't matter how hard I tried, getting the tabs on the roof to fit either on the inside of the walls or outside just didn't work out.

The two cabins received from prior job lots
This one was a hybrid. The walls were part of one lot, while the roof came from another.

This is my favorite - I love the colors on this one

Astro Mfg Guided Missile Bank

The metal coin bank made by Astro was a favorite toy/gadget when I was a kid and was one of the toys I just had to buy as an adult collector. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Roy Rogers Holster

Looking back on it I believe that - overall - Roy Rogers was my very best favorite Western star. I loved watching his '40s era black-&-white serials especially when The Sons of The Pioneers were featured. Later, when Roy had his TV series featuring Roy, Dale, Pat Brady, and Nelly Belle the Jeep I had to be there in front of the telly absorbing all the adventures and hijinks! The ultimate Roy Rogers for me was watching the movie "Son of Paleface" with Bob Hope and Jane Russell. Anywho, on with the toy. The Cave has a bunch of Roy toys scattered around and the latest to join the crew is this Roy Rogers holster sans pistols. While it's in fairly decent condition, the leather needs conditioning to make it supple again,  there is a tear in the belt needing repair, and of course there are no pistols. All of this combined to make it a budget friendly purchase (as a side note, I have some Hubley pistols coming in to help flesh out the ensemble). Enjoy! Opa Fritz

I hope I can find someone to repair this. I'm not even going to attempt it - I'll end up ruining it!

Some of the little fringes have torn off as well

The Toy House No. 406 Buckboard REDUX - Got A Guy Riding Shotgun

After digging through my bins, I found the loose companion to The Toy House Buckboard driver. This is the 'guy riding shotgun' pose and yes, mine is a slightly different color but it is the right pose. I still have two of these buckboard's still in their bags. One of them has both poses, while the other one has two driver figures. This figure was supposed to have a tab on his butt which fits into a slot in the wagon seat, but it appears that tab was cut off. It doesn't make much of a difference other than with the tab in place, he would be forced to sit at an angle on the seat - looking to his left. Anywho, here's a couple of shots of the buckboard with both figures. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Risky Flight (Arden Toys Argentina Avion Lazer)

When I decided to post my cobbled together 'art' as a new series for the blog, the risk was that longtime readers would recognize the photos from previous posts. If that's the case, sorry for the repetition. Still, it's nice to be able to feature these again, even if they are repeats. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

TootsieToy Pony Boy Cap Pistol's with Holster - REDUX

Two years ago (TWO years already? seems like only yesterday) I posted this holster with only one pistol, but since then have added a second pistol to make it a complete set. For collector's on a budget pairing things from multiple purchases may be the only way to go. Instead of paying a premium price for a complete outfit, the set shown here was the result of three separate purchases. The faux leather holster from an unknown manufacturer was one purchase. The holster, while not real leather, is a quality made product using heavy weight materials. Not having the original pistols (if in fact it was sold that way originally) allowed me to get it cheap. The two pistols are TootsieToy Pony Boy's which are fairly inexpensive because apparently TootsieToy pumped these out by the gazillions. Oh how they bring back memories of playing Cowboys when I was a kid! Enjoy! Opa Fritz

R&S Toy Mfr Co., Inc Western Boy Cowboy Outfit Style 2403

Here's a nifty holster set that I was able to acquire at a decent price - read 'cheap'. I know nothing about the manufacturer, what year this may have been made, or whether or not it originally came with a cap pistol but I can say it was a quality made item. The holster and belt are real leather, and the belt clasp and holster decorations are well made. They are stampings of a medium weight metal - not paper thin as in some I've seen. The leather does need some conditioning to improve its suppleness and flexibility and once I've done that I can place one of my Pony Boy pistols in it for display. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Flash Gordon Lands on Mongo

Here's one I concocted ten years ago and it's been sitting on my computer until now. Using a Premier Plastic's spaceship and posing it on my diorama base, I imagined Flash and Dr. Zarkov landing just outside of Mingo City on a mission to rescue Dale Arden from the clutches of the evil  Ming. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

The Toy House No. 406 Buckboard REDUX - Built-up

I broke down and bought a mint-in-bag Toy House Buckboard for the sole purpose of assembling it. Overall, it's as good as any other of the similar sized wagons out there. I only had one small disappointment - my package, though still mint - included two wagon drivers instead on one driver and one riding shotgun (no biggie because I did see that guy in my stash of figures). The toy was photographed as it came out of the bag. It measures 10 1/4" (26.03cm) L x 3 3/8" (8.57cm) W x 2 3/8"(6.03cm) H (to top of wagon seat back). Enjoy! Opa Fritz

The front wheels are a different color than the rear wheels. I looked at my other bagged examples and they're all like that.

This bag had two drivers. One of the figures should have been a guy riding shotgun.
