King & Country 54mm Sands of Iwo Jima - JA06 Japanese Firing Mortar

Today is the anniversary of the end of World War II with the signing of the surrender by the Japanese aboard the U.S.S. Missouri. I would have liked to do a narrative on the various gear and arms reflected in these fine sculpts by King & Country, but alas there just hasn't been enough time. If memory serves me correct though, the mortar shown here was first developed to be placed on the soldiers leg in the belief that it would be enough bracing. After some broken legs due to the concussion it was decided that maybe it would be better to place them on the ground! Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
