Junye Toys, Ltd (China) - Diecast Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey with Lights, Sound, and Pul-back Motor No. 55987

I was going through the photos wanting to clear up some loose ends with the airplane / helicopter posts - you know, trying to catch up. I posted the Irwin helicopter the other day which is a fairly recent acquisition and that got me caught up with helos. Then, after perusing the aircraft folder, I came across these pics from 3 years ago that I never posted!

Wellll, things have gotten quite busy around here. I started painting the grand baby's bedroom under her 'supervision'! Geez, it's like working in the middle of a tornado hahahahaha Anywho, I have to try and post this before she wakes up and the day's hectic-ness begins. :-)

The Osprey had a fairly rocky development curve and after several unfortunate incidents and lives lost, engineers solved the problems of the tilt-rotor design and it was finally fielded in 2007 by the Marines and 2009 by the Air Force. The toy measures 7" (17.78cm) L x 4.75" (12.06cm) wingspan (end of nacelle to end of nacelle), 2.5" (6.35cm) H rotors up / 1.75" (4.44cm) H rotors down. The outline is 'good 'nuff for guvmint work'. That is to say, although the toy is not made to fine-scale specifications, you can look at it and say, "Yup, that's a V-22 Osprey". Good enough for a toy. The rotors are the single biggest compromise in its toy design being w-a-y too short. I tried to find one of these in USAF markings - which basically would be gray with black Star-&-Bar insignias - but to no avail so I got this version which is more generic toy than anything. The lights and sound are fun additions to this thing and when you pull back on the fuselage and let it go forward, the rotors turn. They turn regardless of nacelle position as well which is nice. Overall a terrific little toy for junior when playing greens and tans on the bedroom floor. Enjoy! opa Fritz

    1. Bettina's got several photos of the real version flying over the house!! They are one of the coolest aircraft in the inventory I think. I always seem to miss them as they fly over even though they have a very distinctive sound.
