Playing Cowboys - Black Felt Stetson Cowboy Hat - Unk Mfr

Until I get the next round of Old West toy photos taken and edited I thought I would post some hidden gems from the collection.

Cosplay is nothing new, although today we think of it more as an adult hobby. Back in the day - '1950s/'60s/'70s - kids liked to dress up to go outside and play. I had, as I recall, the cowboy outfit as seen below as well as a Union Civil War uniform, and Army fatigues. Okay, it's not like we dressed up every time we went outside, but certainly there were times we all just felt like doing it. Often times we never put on the full uniform and were content to just don the cap.

As an adult collector, I acquired this cap many years ago and although it's in great shape, if there was a band inside with the manufacturer listed, it's long since gone. Of course if you were growing up back then you knew that the bad guys always wore black caps. That wasn't a hard and fast rule as many TV Westerns showed good guys wearing black as well but it's something we enjoyed promoting (Hopalong Cassidy wore a large black cap). Our cosplay hats were always Stetson's - no Sombreros and generally no hi-rise hats of the type Hopalong Cassidy wore - and generally made of felt offered in a variety of colors by numerous manufacturers. Some had fancy bands on the outside while others, like mine, were plain. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

That hi-rise black cowboy hat was his trademark look.
