MPC 'Defender' Missile - Blue Base, Blue Launch Rack

Okay, let's start another round of "Guess the Playset"! I promise, this will be the last one - at least for a while :-)

We'll start this off with these cool missile launchers. MPC referred to these as 'Defender' missiles in their instruction sheets and they were included in large and small playsets alike. A lot of collector's  just call these Nike missile launchers and that's okay too. The launch racks, sans base, were used in the tracked missile carriers as well as boats and perhaps there were other applications that I'm unaware of. The bases measure 3 3/4" (9.52cm) W x 3" (7.62cm) D x 3/4" (1.90cm) H. Some launch racks tend to sit lower than others but a total height is ~3 1/2" - 4 1/2" (8.89cm - 11.43cm) H. The rockets are 4 3/4" (12.06cm)  L x 1 1/2" (3.81cm) wingspan and have a slot underneath which fits over a rail on the launcher. These are rubber band powered missiles with the band attaching to to the top of the launch rack and being stretched to the rear of the missile. None of photos (so far) show the rubber band. Why? Simple, we never really use them here at the house and when we do have them they dry out so fast they're useless, which is why I don't buy them! Okay, so I 'spose I'll scrounge up a serviceable rubber band somewhere and take pics for a future post. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

  1. It always seemed to me there should be some way to mount the whole missile mount on the APC or Missile Carrier, but never figured it out. Bunkermeister

    1. yeah, the base is too wide to fit comfortably on either one without taking knives and saws to it! not a good option :-)
