We're featuring another Nifty '50s toy today: the Ideal Futuristic Flatbed Truck in blue hard plastic measuring: 4 3/8" (11.1cm) L x 1 1/2"(3.8cm) W x 1 1/2" (3.8cm) H. Ideal made several vehicles which we now label as 'Futuristic' but back in the day they were simply part of a set of vehicles as this extract from the Sears 1951 Wishbook shows (group of toys at upper left):
Our truck is at the very top left.
Like most cars and trucks of the time, these would have come in a variety of bright colors. Each of these 'futuristic' trucks had a hook in the front and a ring in the back (missing from my toy) allowing a youngster to hook these up in a sort of floor train. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
