Now here's a nifty little tin litho jet in original header bag from an unknown Japanese manufacturer. To me it looks like a caricature of an F-104 Starfighter, just a tad shorter and stubbier :-). Whoever it was made by it was packaged for Alfred M. Lewis, Inc. of Riverside, California and only $.26 cents back in the day! Ahhh for the good ol' days. The jet measures 5" (12.7cm) L x 3 3/4" (9.52cm) wingspan x 1 5/8" (4.12cm) H. Enjoy! Opa Frizta and Oma Bettina

Marx Tin-litho Batt-Op F-86 Sabre

We've covered Sabre's a number of times here on Toys and Stuff and today we have yet another. I won't go into the Sabre history as that's been done here before but needless to say it was a very popular and famous warbird back in the day and it seemed as if nearly every toy maker produced at least one. This Marx version is the '50s version of a remote controlled toy. There is a battery compartment, which holds two D-cell batteries and attached by cord to the jet. Two buttons on the battery box allow the plane to go forwards or backwards. Not spectacular by today's standards but an awful lot of fun if you were a child of the Nifty '50s. I ended up with two of these. One has had the cord cut off so I used that one for the still photos. The other one is complete and fully functional. Japan - F-106A USAF Convair Delta Dart (Checkerboard)

I had a yen to post a toy, just to break up the Sparks, NV trip posts. Here's a tin-litho jet from the 1960s that was made by an unknown Japanese manufacturer, one that I'm designating as an F-106 Delta Dart. The outline is so close to the prototype that I'm comfortable with the designation although the paint scheme is a little unconventional.  The F-106 Delta Dart was the primary interceptor for the U.S. Air Force from the 1960s through the 1980s. Like the F-100 Super Saber, the Eldon version of which was featured here last week, I remember the Delta Dart from my first air base in Victorville where they were flown by the National Guard unit also stationed there. Mostly I remember them flying them at night and can still see the glow of the afterburners lighting up the sky. The toy measures 9 1/4" (23.5cm) L x 6" (15.2cm) wingspan x 2 1/4" (5.7cm) H. Enjoy!
