To make a long story short there was no clear winner and one person even suggested adding a planet in the background sky. Okay. So now there's a version sans stars and with stars and Saturn thrown in for good measure - just cuz!

Space Art: Rocky Jones XV-2 Orbit Jet - Pt 1

This photo was among the first batch of pictures I took after finishing the Moonscape diorama board. The XV-2 Orbit Jet has been posted here on the blog before but the rocket ship was easy to access out in The Cave and I thought this diorama base would do it justice, as nearly every episode of the TV show took place right here in our solar system. I have the set of DVD's and watched every episode and, quite frankly, the settings almost all looked like the moon. I'll post this photo today and a few more over the next days because, ummm, I have almost nothing else to post - no new series and certainly no big series.

I really like how this photo turned out but the odd thing is, although the photo clearly shows a light from the right, all the lights in the room were turned off!

Unlike some of my other Orbit Jet photos, this one was not a collage built up in Photoshop, but rather a 3D model on a 3D diorama base with only shadows, contrast, and other small adjustments made.

Space Art: Moon Recon

It didn't take me long to start generating cool photos using my newly finished Moonscape diorama base. Using the Day-Fran 'SPACE GLIDER' as the focal point, this image was assembled in Photoshop and the words 'SPACE GLIDER' were dithered out from the toy because it's not actually gliding here is it? Compositions using more than one image aren't possible in the free version of Chat GPT - that I'm aware of - so I'll still be doing a bit of Photoshopping.

Space Art: Pyro X-300 (2nd Version)

When I came across this vintage art featuring what is clearly the Pyro X-300, I knew I had to try and replicate it, so I did one in B&W like the original, and one in color. The background was culled from the Internet, while the Moon was a picture taken by my wife. As with the pic I posted yesterday, I didn't bother to make the broken fins on my sample look longer, leaving the toy just as it looks like in my collection.

Space Art: Pyro X-300 (1st Version)

I wanted to place the X-300 in a nice outer space setting and this was my first attempt. I didn't bother to Photoshop it and make the rear fins longer as they be on a complete, unbroken example. Instead I kept my broken ship pretty much as is.

Space Art: X-100 Flyby

I have another set of Marx figures to post but I'm gonna start that series tomorrow. For today, here's a little something I cobbled together when it was too warm to play out in The Cave. For this I used Dimestore Dreams X-100 Spaceship as the basis. The background is a photo of the sun my wife took with the surrounding sky darkened. The hills are two cardboard cut-out mountains from the recently blogged HG Toys Buck Rogers playset.

Space Art: Task Force 1 Flyover

It's been too warm to work out in The Cave so I'm trying to find ways to keep me busy at the computer. Prior to posting the series on HG Toys Buck Rogers playset, I had already been using the cardboard diorama backgrounds that came with it when photographing some of my Archer spaceman figures. I wanted to use them in other applications as well and came up with this flyover from Tarheel Industries Project SWORD Task Force 1 spaceship. The whole brightly-colored vibe is a nod to both the comics and movies of the past and I really like how it turned out.

Rob C.'s Gouache Sketches Based on My Toyscape Photos - Pt 1 GIANT Spaceship

Rob C. and I are regular reader's and contributor's to the UK based Moonbase Central blog. Over the past several months and years I've posted a bunch of diorama photos based on my small space toys from companies like Tri-ang Spacex, or GIANT of Hong Kong, or LP. Those photos were also featured on Moonbase Central. After seeing them, Rob said he'd like to try his hand at interpreting some of them in the 'gouache' style:

Gouache is defined as a method of painting with opaque watercolors. It is a water-based paint that consists of natural pigments, water, and a binding agent, typically gum arabic or dextrin, which gives it a unique opacity compared to traditional watercolors. Gouache is known for its vibrant colors and matte finish, making it distinct from both watercolor and acrylic paints.

I've seen his terrific work featured on Moonbase and readily agreed. Today we proudly feature the first in a series of six gouache Toyscape interpretations by Rob C.- "GIANT Spaceship". TOYSCAPES: 'LP' Brand Lunar Bubble Rover (With and Without Stars)

Well, well, well, after years of calling my little 'art' projects every name under the sun, a reader over at the Moonbase Central blog (where I have many posts featured - some even before they appear here) came up with 'Toyscapes'! I LUV IT! ❤❤ It's catchy, it's to the point, and it can be used for any subject, not just space.

Our first Toyscape entry is part of a series of photos taken a couple of few weeks back and features an 'LP' brand Lunar Rover. There are two shots provided: one without stars added, and a second one with stars. I'm on the fence when it comes to adding star detail. On the one hand, stars are a part of outer space - billions of them in fact. On the other hand, they can detract from the central focus of the photo. Anywho, what do you guys think?
