LP #405B Explorer Car - School Bus on The Moon

Up next is the LP Explorer Car, which I call 'The Moon School Bus'. It looks like it's going to pick up kids from the outlying settlements and bring them to the main school in the Alpha Dome, all it needs is a small 'Blue Bird' logo on the side.

LP made a really nice series of Explorer Cars, but unfortunately, I've only been able to latch on to a couple. This one measures: 3" (7.62cm) L x 1.5" (3.81cm) W x 1.5" (3.81cm) H. They're all equipped with friction motors. These cars were available in sets, or separate sale as this one. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Lincoln International Wind-up Sparking Moon Explorer

Whether digging for samples, mining, or excavating a spot for future construction efforts, here's a terrific work vehicle for any Lunar base, a Sparking Moon Explorer from Lincoln International! And it's just the right size for our Triang/LP/Golden Astronaut, etc figures. The seller sold this as mint and the toy appears unplayed with but the box is definitely shelf-worn. I tested it briefly and it does work, rolling along at a nice slow gait. It measures 4" (10.16cm) L x 2 1/4" (5.71cm) W x 1 7/8" (4.76cm) H and the plastic cover comes off to facilitate replacing the sparking mechanism. Several Lunar vehicles have been featured on the Moonbase Central blog in recent months, so I know there are other types available but haven't really searched fleaBay for any more. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Well, we're now on to Stage III of Golden Astronauts. It consists of:

Origins for this unmanned Lunar exploration vehicle can be found here on SpaceX Central. I've beem hangin' out at Moonbase Central a lot lately. Bill Bulloch (allias Wotan) has been photographing a phenomenal number of small sized space toys that fit in well with all these Triang/GA toys. AND he's been putting them in nice moonscape settings, something I haven't yet done. Soooo, I gotta get off my duff and start taking something other than 'studio' shots. But not today - gonna be busy! LOL The rebranding from Triang's version to Golden Astronaut got a little confusing. This toy was the Triang 'Prospector' and was rebranded as the GA 'Moon Explorer'. The Triang 'Explorer MEV2' was rebranded to the GA 'Moon Prospector' (covered in the next installment).
