TRAIN TIME: 2023 Halloween Train Layout - Pt 3 Ruh-Roh! It's Scooby Doo

I have two Lionel Halloween-themed train sets. An earlier post highlighted the Lionel Set #2123060 Hallow's Eve Limited Graveyard Route from 2021 which was on the track for a week and a half or so. Then it was swapped out with Lionel Set #6-85241T Scooby-Doo The Mystery Machine Set from 2018. I have to say that of all my train sets, the Scooby Doo is among the favorites. It has a spooky bell and dialogue featuring the voice of Scooby and an assorted ghoul or two - a very fun set indeed! Enjoy! Opa Fritz

The set includes an engine, gondola with a ghost chasing Shaggy and Scooby, a boxcar, and a lighted caboose.

The large box has the track, the small one is just a filler piece.

This Year's Haunted Village (aka Spooky Town) Halloween Set-up - Pt 3

As usually happens with these holiday set-ups, I'll take a few things out to get started, then run trains and take photos, then take some more stuff out, and so-on and so-forth. The BIG news this year is the addition of Lionel's Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine ready-to-run set from 2018. This is an awesome toy and a must-have for the Scooby-Doo fan. It's part of Lionel's LionChief series of sets and designed to be operated from either the included bluetooth hand-held controller or Lionel's LionChief app on your mobile device. There are station announcements and crew talk in Scooby's voice and a monster's voice, and a standard horn sound. However, the bell sound is quite different: rather than the usual train engine bell, it's a recording of a haunting cathedral bell of the type you may hear in Scooby-Doo cartoons! hahahaha Also too, since the last post we have some more vignettes added to the overall scene and all those diminutive 1/64 scale cars were replaced with larger vehicles. The figures are bit all-over-the-place scale-wise but I'm okay with that - they're all there to have fun. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Lionel No. 6-85241T Scooby-Doo The Mystery Machine Set

The set comes with an engine, operating Shaggy and Scooby chase gondola, boxcar, and caboose

I did two 'unboxing" videos of this set.

A few vignettes

"Good morning!"

"Tourists! tsk tsk tsk Somebody tell these people the big kid is harmless"

"Family picture day in Spooky Town"

The hearse and Munsters Koach are new to this year's layout. I'll post photo essays on tem another time

So my grand daughter says, "Opa, can I look at the Halloween layout?"
"Sure!" LOL
She played a little, watched the Scooby train and placed a couple of souvenir spiders from the Excalibur Hotel and Casino, and generally reorganised afew things hahahahaha

Jada 1/43 Scale Die-cast Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine

New for this year from Jada is the 1/43 scale die-cast Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine. It's an attractive vehicle suitable of course with the Jada Ecto-1 Ghostbusters machine (which I haven't yet posted). As is the usual case with nearll all die-cast vehicle, this one does not have any character figures included. Oh well. The Mystery Machine measures 4" (10.16cm) L x 2" (5.08cm) W x 2 1/4" (5.71cm) H. Enjoy! Oap Fritz

Here's a comparison shot of the Jada die-cast Mystery Machine and the Wendy's burger joint premium from the early 2000s. They're pretty close in size but the advantage to Wendy's version is the Mystery, Inc. crew graphics in the windows - sadly lacking on the die-cast version

Mattel Hot Wheels #BFC-09B0B G1 Mystery Machine

From 2011 we have this nifty little 1/64 scale Hot Wheels Mystery Machine. It's a fun rendition of the classic cartoon van but after looking closely at it there's some quality issues regarding its finish - decals and paint both appear a bit ragged in spots. To a kid this wouldn't matter much because within a year the whole thing is likely to look ragged but if you're lookin' for pristine this ain't it! Well you can decide for yourself after looking at the photos. I still think it's a fun little car to go along with the others in the Haunted Village. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
