Moon Over Las Vegas by Bettina

I have been soooo remiss in not sharing photos that Bettina has been taking right from our own backyard, or sometimes front yard. yesterday the world saw the longest Lunar eclipse of the century, however we here in North America missed out on that spectacle. Oh well. That being said, we are now in the midst of our 'monsoon' season where the flow of moist air switches from west-to-east to east-to-west bringing with it moisture and rains from the Atlantic or Gulf of Mexico. The Las Vegas Valley has seen a lot of rain storms but Bettina was still able to pull off some nice shots this week. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

2013_09_20 Bettina and Shelly Gang Up on The Harvest Moon

Watch out Harvest Moon, I'm sending the gals out to get ya :-) Bettina and Shelly have been busy taking photos of the Harvest Moon - the full moon nearest the time of the September equinox. One of Bettina's photos was even featured in a local news segment.

The photo was aired today on the ABC affiliate KTNV Channel 13 but they actually used a photo submitted three days ago

STOP THE PRESSES - FLASH! BETTINA MAKES IT ON LOCAL NEWSCAST SECOND DAY IN A ROW

Okay, this is weird. Just now we're all in the living room watching the news, I'm on the computer typing this blog and what should appear on Channel 13 News? The photo below which was taken yesterday and submitted to Channel 13 News yesterday evening.:

The newcaster, Megan Telles, had some very nice words to say while the photo showed big and bright on the screen! WOW - way to go Bettina! Now Bettina will have to find the video of the newscast so that I can share it with ya'all.

Okay, so here's a photo taken today

The same photo adjusted for brightness and midtones. The details really pop.

Bettina also took some shots of the Sheep Mountains just to the north of us. With all these extreme close-ups I had to ask her if she was looking for mountain goats? LOL

Next up are a series of photos Shelly took two days ago. I really get a kick out of her 'gumdrop' moon photos. They look good enough to eat :-)

2013_07_26 Vegas Valley Big Sky Pics - Moon Report

A quick post to start this morning off. With tripod firmly planted in the yard and pointing heavenward, Bettina took a series of Moon shots which we're presenting today as a .gif. Good Morning World - Enjoy!

2013_06_28 Super Moon On the Decline - yet

Somehow or another our camera seems to have a life of its own. We stand there and take photos and without messing with the settings manage to come up with some interesting color variations like this blue Moon shown below. It's really cool, but don't ask me how it happened! This past weekend's Super Moon is slowly fading away and we'll capture it for your - Enjoyment!

Bettina managed to catch another airplane!

It's easy to hear these things, but not so easy to capture them in the frame so luck plays a good part in taking these photos.

2013_06_25 The Morning After The Night Before - The Not So Full Super Moon

This morning was a good time for Moon watching. The Super Moon of this past weekend is now on the wane but there were still good opportunities this morning for picture taking. Enjoy!

My wife took today's pictures and has no idea how this Blue Moon came about. Just one of those things - but cool!

2013_05_25 Full Moon

Okay, doin' some more re-posting. I accidentally deleted this post as well from back on 26 May. The photos were taken by my wife Bettina on the night of the 25th. We use the 'Manual' setting on an inexpensive Canon PowerShot A590 set on 'Spot' metering so that it focuses only on the Moon. The details aren't too shabby and often times we'll get clear enough photos by hand holding the camera. Other times we use a tripod. Anyway, for those who had already seen these photos earlier in the week, here's a rerun :-)  Enjoy - Again!

These were all taken in sequence and he camera was hand-held

Okay, don't ask me how the heck we did this. All we did was take the photos and upload them, then when proof-reading the blog it turned out that we had somehow made a .gif image. I haven't a clue what setting the camera was on to be able to come up up with this one.

This too was an accidental .gif but there is far less movement
