Hardy Chemical & Plastics Corp. Stagecoach - Green/Yellow HP

I started going through one of my tote bins of Western toys pulling things out, and photographing them. Some of the things in there I had forgotten about but for the most part I pretty much remembered what was in there. However, this is the first time photographing the hoard! Recently, several Hardy wagons that were purchased not too long ago were featured here on the blog, but in that tote bin was this Hardy Stagecoach in really good shape that needs to be posted. Enjoy! Hardy Chemical & Plastics Corp. Covered Wagon - Green/Red HP

Here's the second of three Hardy wagons purchased recently. Like I said in yesterday's post, because there was only one intact hitch I used it for all three photo essays. Also, there are a couple of pieces missing from this. The first is a driver's seat which has two figures and is placed inside the wagon just behind the front of the wagon bed. The second is the rear hatch.  These wagons came in a wide variety of color combinations and could very well be the basis of an extensive collection. The wagon measures 9 1/2" (24.13cm) L overall x 3" (7.62cm) W x 3 7/8" (9.84cm) H. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

The rear hatch which is missing on my sample

Notice the large gap in the two halves of the wagon cover. I have never seen a Hardy covered wagon without that gap!

More Western Stuff: Hardy Plastics & Chemical Corp. Stagecoach Yellow/Red HP

While Hardy has been featured on the blog before (a couple of horse drawn fire engines and circus wagons), it's been a while since I bought anything else of theirs. Being in an Old West frame of mind, I was piddling around fleaBay and about a month or so ago happened upon a couple of sales with a total of three Hardy Old West type wagons (for a good price but in various states of disrepair BTW). Of the three wagons, only one had a usable hitch and another one was missing pieces. I got around to photographing these Hardy wagons just this past week or so and basically cheated: I used the one good hitch for all three photo essay's! These wagons were all designed as floor toys. A length of string would be tied to a hole in the front of the hitch and as Junior pulled the toy along the floor, the horses would go up and down via the eccentric wheel with an offset crank attached to the horses rear legs.

I really love stagecoaches and thought this would make a great addition to any Old West scene. It measures 9" (22.86cm) L (tip of horses nose to back of trunk) x 2" (5.08cm) W x 2 5/8" (6.66cm) H. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

CIRCUS TIME: Hardy Plastics & Chemical Corp. Circus Wagon No. 22 - Green with Yellow Wheels and OB

okay okay, last Hardy wagon  LOL

This time I have one with the original box. So far we've seen red and green versions of the wagon and it wouldn't surprise me if other colors were offered, after all, this was sold at a time when brightly colored toys were the order of the day. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

I love it when the original price tags are still on the boxes. Check it out: 69¢  at Woolworth's!
