Jayline No. 201 Suburban Station

My goodness, we started showing Jayline tin buildings at the beginning of the month and we're just now finishing up - and there's only three buildings to show!! Actually, Jayline made four buildings, but I only have three. Anywho, the last I have to offer is the #201 Suburban Station. It has a somewhat unusual design feature - the covered waiting area. There aren't very many tin-litho train stations with this feature as the majority of them tend to be simple boxes. My sample also has a working bell. A very annoying working bell I may add! It's just a simple doorbell and it is loud and clamorous. It's the type of accessory that, when you hook it up, you don't have the bell ring for very long. The station itself is nicely designed and is adorned in the same brown and yellow color scheme as all the Jayline buildings and has the added advantage of not being very big, thereby not taking up a lot of valuable toy train layout real estate. Jayline Interlocking Tower

Last week we looked at Jayline's Handcar Shed, one of only four O-gauge buildings made by the company. Today we'll check out the Interlocking Tower. You'll notice in the photos that there are some circular indentations on the walls. The tower came in at least two versions, with and without signal lights. There would have been one or two signal lights placed high up on one wall that would have been activated by a train passing over an insulated control track. For some unknown reason, during the production process, the holes were partially stamped but not punched out all the way. I have seen eBay photos in which one hole was completely stamped out while the other was a partial stamping!? - go figure. Anyway, it's any attractive tower which doesn't use up a lot of toy train layout real estate.Everybody Enjoy! Fritz & Bettina Berg Opa & Oma :)

Jayline Handcar Shed

Jayline is a rather elusive company to pin down. All I know is that it was formed in Philadelphia, PA in the early '40s and went out of business by the late '40s. Their entire tin-litho train line consisted of four buildings suitable for 3-rail O-gauge trains: Shed, Handcar Shed, Passenger Station, and Interlocking Tower. These are real toughies to find and I've only got three of them.

Today's featured Handcar Shed is quite unusual in that handcar sheds in general were the something one would normally see on a scale model railroad and not on a tinplate layout of the '40s. Enjoy!
