Tiny Boats: A Fascinating Peek at Some Really Small Toy Boats - Pt 7 Kellogg's PT Boat Cereal Premium - Yellow SP

Over time, I've managed to gather a fair amount of cereal premiums. They're not a major collecting focus, buying them only when they fit into another collecting interest. Such was the case with this Kellogg's PT Boat. I bought it because it fit into my tiny boat fleet collection. Do you recall the scuba diver / frogman premiums that you loaded up with baking soda and they dove, then surfaced, then dove again, then surfaced? This PT Boat is kinda like that. Fill the cavity with baking soda, put it into the water and it should move along on its own. Honestly though, I haven't tried it yet so I can't say how well it works. It measures: 2.25" (5.71cm) L x 1" (2.54cm) W x .625" (1.58cm) H. It has a long stern section which goes down into the water, allowing the water to seep up into the hull and interact with the baking soda. A nice feature to make it operable, but it's impossible to lay flat for taking photos. Therefore I had to make a small stand using a heavy paper clip, cut and bent to a suitable shape. Tiny Boats: A Fascinating Peek at Some Really Small Toy Boats - Pt 1 New Series

Generally, boats have been a staple here on Toys and Stuff for years now but quite frankly I've been remiss in the past few years in posting photos I had already taken, or taking photos of boats that have been floating around in The Cave for many years. Maybe this year I can rectify that a bit.

Our main subject for this next series are my tiny boats. While I don't have that many, a few managed to show up in The Hoard over the years, mostly the result of impulse buys. Some of these boats were cereal premiums, while others may have been bin toys, while others were included in bagged sets of toys. A few of these have been posted to the blog but most have not. There's not really that many so this will be relatively short series. Be Blessed and Relish Life! Ed

I'm not really a boat collector but every now and then one creeps into the collection. This little gem was bouncing around in a box of miscellaneous toys received as a lot several years back. At first I thought it was a cereal premium from maybe the late '50s or early '60s - Wrong! Faintly visible on the bottom of the hull is the Dillon-Beck logo. After looking in "PLASTIC TOYS Dimestore Dreams of the '40s & '50s' " by Bill Hanlon it's listed as immediate post-war from 1946-48! Cool.  I've posted the color as green and cream HOWEVER, the hull may have actually started out as white and discolored to the cream you see here. I've seen that same color transformation on Marx and Ideal toys as well. The boat measures 4" (10.16cm) L x 1 1/4" (3.17cm) W x 7/8" (2.22cm) H and you can see that it's covered with paint flecks - not part of the original color scheme but probably accidental by a previous owner.. So now my miniature boat fleet is, without planning it, growing - albeit slowly. Let's see what happens in the coming year :-) Enjoy! Der Spielmeister Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina.
