Haunted Dimensions Psychoscareapy2.0 (Shadybrook Sanitarium) Paper Model Kit - Pt 5 Final

I'm gonna call this build 'finished'. There's still some things to do like take some markers or colored pencils and darken up edges and stuff like that, but the build portion is done. At first, that awning and sign were daunting as trying to brace the awning was tricky and each letter of the sign had to be individually cut out but I took my time and was able to work steadily and before long it was finished - yay! I hope you enjoyed this latest paper building project and 'til next time - Enjoy! Opa Fritz

As you can see the back side got a bit crinkly. However, the front and sides sit flat and square, and all the printed lines line up with each other. As this building is meant to be a 'flat' - something thatgets put flush up against the backdrop or wall or whatever, the backside doesn't have to look pretty. Those two anteenas sticking up were also braced with slivers of wood I cut from some sheet stock.

Haunted Dimensions Psychoscareapy2.0 (Shadybrook Sanitarium) Paper Model Kit - Pt 4

The second floor is inset a bit in order to accept the window assembly you see here. Because the window assembly has both 'hill' and 'valley' folds it was a bit tricker to brace. I probably didn't need to brace it at all seeing as how it's tucked away into that inset, but I always feel better when these structures are braced thoroughly. There's still just a couple more things to do and I'll be all finished! Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Haunted Dimensions Psychoscareapy2.0 (Shadybrook Sanitarium) Paper Model Kit - Pt 3

The Shaddybrook Sanitarium (Asylum? Looney Bin? Nut House?) is progressing well. There's a lot of bracing in those walls and it took days to get it done. Well okay, it didn't actually take days to do it all but after all I do have a job, a family to deal with, and some health issues that took the wind out of my sails. That means that I don't go out in The Cave every day to work on things, and when I do go it may only be for minor activities. All that being said, at this point the building looks good enough to display but really, there's a bunch of stuff that still needs to be done. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Ray Keim's Haunted Dimensions Psychoscareapy2.0 (Shadybrook Sanitarium) Paper Model Kit - Pt 2

Okay, just to prove I'm not some kind of master modeler LOL here's what all that bracing looks like after it's been put in place. I'm not at all worried about exact fits but there has to be enough bracing such that this thing won't easily crumple under a little-bit-too-aggrssive grab when placing it at any location on the layout or when it it gets placed in the storage drawer. You can see that the facade looks just fine and quite serviceable. The rear of the building, ummmm, not so much. I'll post more pics of that on a later post. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Ray Keim's Haunted Dimensions Psychoscareapy2.0 (Shadybrook Sanitarium) Paper Model Kit - Pt 1

Halloween really did take a back seat here the last few years - at least as the blog is concerned. I don't even remember the last paper building kit project I did. Wellll, this year was time to get back in the saddle and at least try another kit. This one is from Ray Keim's Haunted Dimensions website. it - like all his kits - are free downloads and are excllent additions to any Halloween village when finished. What I do for all of my paper kits is to brace them thoroughly with stripwood (either bals or basswood - both work well enough for me). The bracing itself doesn't have to be exact exact, just mostly exact Huh? In other words, monor gaps are okay. The goal is to have so much bracing that your kits will stand up to a fair amount of wear and tear without getting all bent out of shape. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Here's the intial start of the project and the progress as of 6 Oct
