Montgomery Wards Miniature Apollo Exploration set - Pt 3 Apollo Group

I think it's best from here on in to handle the multitudinous contents of this set in groups. This group represents the historical aspect of the toy: Mercury capsule, Command Module, LEM, American flag, and two Apollo astronaut figures. The individual toys have already been posted here as photo essays during the past couple of months so I won't repeat them here. The only difference is that the Command Module/Service Module in this set sits on a stand. The carded Apollo Moon Exploring LEM did not come with a stand. My Wards sample is missing the hatch on the Mercury capsule. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

 

The Last Super Moon of 2020 - the Flower Moon by Bettina 7 May 2020

This past Thursday - 7 May 2020 - was the last Super Moon of 2020, called the Flower Moon. Here in Lost Wages we had cloudy skies but with a little patience and perserverance Bettina managed to get a good clear shot, plus a couple of other nice pics as well. Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Super Everything Moon and Other Cool Pics by Bettina

I meant to post these last week but...Anywho. The Super Bloody Wolf Eclipse Moon (referred to by several people as 'The Everything Moon') last week was a real bear to photograph here in the Las Vegas Valley as we had overcast skies, but Bettina did manage to get some shots as the clouds would clear every so often. With the clouds came some nice opportunities for pic sky pics. It was also pretty cold here in the Valley (for Las Vegas that is) with temps at around 32°F waking up in the morning and that meant snow in the mountains. Moon Over Las Vegas by Bettina

I have been soooo remiss in not sharing photos that Bettina has been taking right from our own backyard, or sometimes front yard. yesterday the world saw the longest Lunar eclipse of the century, however we here in North America missed out on that spectacle. Oh well. That being said, we are now in the midst of our 'monsoon' season where the flow of moist air switches from west-to-east to east-to-west bringing with it moisture and rains from the Atlantic or Gulf of Mexico. The Las Vegas Valley has seen a lot of rain storms but Bettina was still able to pull off some nice shots this week. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

Lyrid Meteor Shower

Soooo, yesterday about 11PM I'm in bed trying to get to sleep and having no luck. Bettina wasn't having any luck either and was outside trying to get a few pics of the Moon. All of a sudden I hear her yelling, "FRITZ COME HERE YOU'VE GOT TO SEE THIS!" So I amble out to the patio and we both see these odd moving light in the sky. At first I thought they were helicopters, BUT THEN we started seeing more and more, all across the sky. Okay this is Las Vegas, supposedly a hot bed of UFO activity (although none that we've ever noticed) so that was the first thing that came to mind. But no, that wasn't right. Then she says something about some kind of meteor shower. Then it struck me, yes I had seen the headlines but hadn't followed up by reading the article. I've been down this road before: big meteor showers predicted, great viewing expected, I go outside and get bupkis! This is the first time I've actually been witness to a meteor shower and it was awesome. They moved slowly, appearing like a flight of high flying helicopters. They were very bright and outshone the moon, which according to the article said may hamper viewing - it didn't. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
