Burger King Frodo Glass 2001

Back when Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy came out I pretty much went hog wild over all the toys and gimmicks that came out. Well, now that my collector's hot flashes have subsided it's time to just get rid of stuff. I've already sold a bunch of my Play Along Toys LOTR on the Bay and these glasses are next. Originally Burger King put out a set of four character glasses: Gandalf, Frodo, Strider, and Arwen. I only ever had Gandalf and Frodo, not bothering to acquire the other two. I do like the glasses mostly because of one really cool feature - they have a colored light encased in a removable plastic base which, when lit, gives off a nice glow.. Now check this out - the last photo shows the light glowing in the base. It still works after 14 years! The bases were a clear flexible plastic withe the light and battery compartment built in. They're removable so as to be able to wash the glass, but over time mine has yellowed as is apparent in the photographs. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina.

Even though the base has gone from clear to yellow, it's a shade of yellow which reminds me of champagne!

AOME Battle Scale Figures Single Packs - Frodo Baggins in Window Box

I started up my AOME LOTR collecting again, trying to complete the 'Battle Scale Figure' single packs series (most of which are bilingual) but this particular figure I've had for some time, I had just never gotten around to photographing him. He's not a part of the bilingual, international edition but rather a Toys R Us promotional item which was part of Wave 1 in 2004 (the designation given to the various releases, there being six 'Waves' released from about 2004 to 2005). Originally this special edition costs $9.99 retail.

The single packs were a nice offering allowing a collector or toy fiend to buy one at a time, unfortunately I had never seen them offered in an American store. The figures themselves were included in multi-packs here Stateside. Frodo was part of the 'Soldiers and Scenes - Attack at Weathertop' set and was featured here on the blog on June 4, 2011.  I think the photos taken back then came out just as well as this later set taken using my new MyStudio set-up from Amazon, but this time there's more photos. AOME LOTR - Twilight Ambush at Weathertop - Comicon Edition

When Play Along's Lord of The Rings toys were released as tie-in's to Peter Jackson's movie trilogy they offered a number of exclusives and special editions. Much of the time this simply meant taking figures from the Soldiers and Scenes line and packaging them individually. Sometimes, as in the case with today's featured Toys & Stuff set, you got something a little different. For this set they packaged the same two Ringwraith's found in their 'Ringwraiths' Soldiers and Scene set (not yet featured on this blog) but included a Frodo figure in transparent plastic to simulate Frodo's 'fading' after being stabbed with a fell blade by one of the Ringwraith's. I absolutely love the sculpting of the Ringwraith figures - they simply exude nastiness and ill-intent. Mind you, these aren't very worthy traits but they sure do make for exciting toys! Enjoy!

I took two sets of Frodo photos. The first set was against a white backdrop and the second set against a black one. Here's what the white background looked like. Ultimately though I felt the black backdrop had more visual appeal.
