I have really not felt like blogging much lately but there's still so many small space toys toy cover. Okay, time to pull myself out of this slump. The SpaceX series is not dead quite yet here on Toys and Stuff as there is one lone toy in my SpaceX collection to cover. In 1970 Triang came out with a second series of SpaceX vehicles but it turned out to be a last gasp effort by a company which would soon declare bankruptcy. The SpaceX Central site has some fascinating history regarding that period in the company's history. Our little Surveyor 2 can be seen here on SpaceX Central.
With a metal base to add weight and free rolling wheels, this was an effort to compete with Mattel Hot Wheels but it was too little, too late for Triang. These Series II toys are immensely HTF here Stateside and this is really the only one I've seen. My sample is missing the grappling arms and the radar array in the back. It measures 3 1/4" (8.25cm) L x 2 1/2" (6.35cm) W x 7/8" (2.22cm) H. Enjoy! Opa Fritz
These are the definitive shots of this toy Ed! Even better than the ones sent by Jack Rosenthal to get his design registered!
