Emergency Landing

Having met the enemy in battle, our scarred pilot has made an emergency landing on a nearby moon. His enemy will claim a victory this time, but our pilot will be rescued and his craft recovered and repaired and he'll fly and fight another day! Enjoy! Opa Fritz

A slightly modified Pyro X-100 Space Scout. A previous owner has added a pilot (which BTW sits at a distinct forward lean making him appear to be wounded) and 'kill' marks on the side of the fuselage.

Dimestore Dreams - Pt 20 No. 20400 Spaceship X-100

Well folks, we are almost through with Dimestore Dreams, with only one more post to go after this!! Longtime readers know that I love space toys and it's surprising (and a bit disappointing) to me that Bill Hanlon only offered one retro spaceship in his Dimestore Dreams line. That being said, he chose one of the better designs to come out of the '50s basing it on Pyro's X-100 Space Scout. So as not to confuse this later offering with the original, the Dimestore Dreams version is smaller and is clearly marked under the fuselage (see photos below). Enjoy! Opa Fritz

Tudor Rose X-100 Space Scout

During the early to mid-1950s Pyro put out a series of terrific plastic space ships, the X-100, X-200, X-300, and X-400 several of which have been featured here on Toys & Stuff. Under arrangement with Pyro, Tudor Rose of England was allowed to use the tooling to make runs of the same products. The runs were probably small and, because Pyro had no presence in the UK, didn't impact Pyro sales. A bright blue Pyro X-100 Space Scout was featured here on 5 May and today we get to look at a bright red, hard plastic Tudor Rose version of it. Enjoy!

Pyro X-100 Space Scout

Now here's a Nifty '50s space toy for your enjoyment - the Pyro X-100 Space Scout. Pyro was founded in 1945 by William Lester, an engineer who designed the first injection molding machines back in 1933. Released in the early 1950s by Pyro in a variety of colors it was part of a four ship set or sold separately as a bin toy. The four space ship set consisted of:

X-100 Space Scout

X-200 Space Ranger

X-300 Space Cruiser

X-400 Space Explorer

The remainder of the Pyro line also had four space vehicles and a rocket ship whistle.

Our  X-100 measures 5" (12.7cm) L x 3 1/4" (8.3cm) wingspan and has three wheels underneath. With its sleek Flash Gordonesque lines this is a true space toy classic. Enjoy!
