Continuing our latest series of Oscar Mayer related posts we have the latest version of the Oscar Mayer Wiener Whistle. Our sample dates from 2013 but honestly I don't know how far back this particular design goes. It's a much nicer rendition than the v.2 whistle which was awkward looking and out of proportion to the Wienermobile's it was meant to present. This one measures 2 1/8" (5.39cm) L x 1" (2.54cm) H x 5/8" (1.58cm) W. Enjoy! Opa Friutz and Oma Bettina

Oscar Mayer Wiener Whistle v.1
I would be remiss in posting a later version Oscar Mayer Weinie Whistle without also posting the original. Here's the Wienie Whistle I remember as a kid and I also managed to find this little blurb on the Web:
"In 1952, Carl Mayer dreamed up the Wiener whistle as a promotional giveaway. Shaped like an Oscar Mayer Weiner, it could be played like a real musical instrument. At first, Wiener whistles were handed out by company spokespeople during Wiener mobile appearances. In 1958, the whistles were packaged with Oscar Mayer Wieners, and in 1964, they were a sell-out success at the New York World's Fair, dispensed in vending machines for two cents".
The whistle's measure about 2" (5.8cm) long. I have seen some with a white band around the middle (simple discoloration or an actual color difference?) but the vast majority were yellow. As I had gotten my original wienie whistle from a guest appearance by Little Oscar at a Scout function I'm assuming it was pre-1958, which 'feels' right. Today's sample is of course a later day purchase of a 'vintage' toy - Lord I feel old :-) Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

Oscar Mayer Wiener Whistle v.2
Here's the follow-up post to our Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. we did just a couple of days ago. Winie whistles have been around since probably the mid-to-late 1950s although it's hard for me to verify that cuz all my Internet searches only lead me to the Wienermobile history and not the whistle history. Perhaps there's a book out there with more info but I don't have it in my limited library. I'm calling today's whistle "v.2" because the originals were in the shape of a hot dog, while this second version is in the shape of the Wienermobile. I believe these first came out in the '80s but can't verify. If anyone knows for sure let me know please. I do have an original version but haven't yet photographed it. This one measures 2 1/4" (5.71cm) L x 1 1/4" (3.17cm) W and we did not get it as a souvenir of our visit to the Wienermobile back in 2008. Nope, on that day all we got were souvenir stickers. This sample was bought separately for only a dollar or two but is still a nice little reminder of the day. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
