Vintage Dino Profiles: Marx Kronosaurus

Apparently Marx based a lot of their dino sculpts on paintings instead of scientific research and it shows. Their version of a Kronosaurus (meaning: Lizard of Kronos) is quite different than the fossil record suggests, as seen by this more recent picture of one as culled from Wikipedia. Marx's version more closely resembles a Plesiosaurus but with a bigger head. Kronosaurus was a short-necked pliosaur - a sea mammal and not a dinosaur. these creatures roamed the seas of the Early Cretaceous, ca 145-100.5mil years ago and would have been approximately 30-36ft in length. Fossil evidence suggests that Kronosaurus preyed on at least turtles and plesiosaurs. The Marx toy measures 5" (12.7cm) L x 2 3/4" 6.98cm) H. Enjoy! Opa Fritz
