Here's a recent acquisition to my MPC collection, the MPC Playset No. 1203 Battle of Bunker Hill. MPC (and Multiple and Miner Industries) put out a vast array of sets, many of which simply cross-utilized the same toys. Smaller sets like this one had less pieces than the larger sets, but the toys were of the same type found in larger sets - nothing new or unique were contained in them as a rule.
This particular set only has Continental soldiers - no Lobsterbacks (Brits) as listed on the box. The set, as I bought it, has more figures than what is listed on the box but is missing a rider for the horse. It's also missing the flagpole. Replacements for the rider and flag pole (just a wooden dowel) can all be had fairly easy though, so no biggie. For me the plusses to this set are:
1st - the marvelous box art - much better than the stylized art seen most often on MPC boxes.
2nd - the two SP cannon are still on their sprues!
3rd - the two sandbags are also new color variations to my collection, coming in a nice metallic blue SP.
4th - the extra soldiers of course are always welcome (BTW, the figures are 45mm SP).
Enjoy! Opa Fritz
