This is the second marbled short barreled howitzer in my collection and this one is missing the spring. The cool thing about marbled plastic toys is, because the manufacturers used leftover plastics in different colors or shades, you end up with an endless variety of patterns. Unlike a couple of the long barreled howitzers in my collection which were given a custom camo paint job by previous owners, this piece gets its appearance from 'marbling'. When companies mix leftover plastics of different colors to make toys, those toys take on a 'marbled' look. In this case that works to our advantage as we end up with a nice camouflaged looking piece. Be Blessed and Relish Life! Ed
This is basically a cut down version of the long barreled howitzer posted the past few days. There is a precedence of course and this thing looks a bit like the M3 105mm howitzer to me. That said, if you find that it looks like a different howitzer let me know - I just didn't feel like plowing through the Internet searching for look-alike's. The firing mechanism is different on this short barreled version: the shell firing spring sticks out of the top of the barrel vs. the breech (as in the larger howitzer). Be Blessed and Relish Life! Here's the second customized Marx howitzer in the collection. This was done by a previous owner and while the camo paint job is much heavier than the one posted yesterday it's still a fine piece. This one too has an early firing mechanism. Be Blessed and Relish Life! Ed
