After a little straightening up I found my book "PLASTIC TOYS Dimestore Dreams of The '40s & '50s" by Bill Hanlon and he describes this as an Armored Troop Carrier. The Armored Car (as I had mis-identified it) is actually another toy in the series - which I don't have - yet!
