The Thomas Toy No. 188 Military Police Jeep came out in 1951 and lasted until the mid-1950s. Available in Red, Blue, and Olive Drab hard plastic it was originally outfitted with a civilian driver. By 1952 the civilian joined the military and all figures seated in the Jeep were G.I.'s. The Utility trailer is normally a removable piece but on my sample someone had melted the tab down making it a permananet attachment. These Jeeps seem to have had a harder time than many other toy Jeeps of the era that I've seen. Often times the windshield, siren, steering wheel, antenna, and trailer are all missing. The other samples in my collection exhibit this alarming lack of accoutrements', which makes complete example way too rich for my blood.
The Jeep measures 4" (2.54cm) L x 1 5/8" (4.12cm) W x 1 5/8" (4.12cm) H. The trailer measures 3 1/2" (8.89cm) L x 1 5/8" (4.12cm) W x 1 1/8" (2.85cm) H. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
