Well, you know I've been on a Knight's and Castle kick the past few months and have posted a bunch of 54mm Britains figures here and intend to post more, as soon as I can take some more pics. Right now I'm waiting for some more figs to arrive.
Britains has a long and storied history as a maker of fine miniatures but manufacture has since moved to Argentina where they are now produced under the name "Britains DSG". A fellow collector found a website which chronicles the history of these figures since their move down there and I found it very interesting. Check out: "A brief history of the Britains Toys Soldiers in Argentina". Some die-hard collectors won't acknowledge the existence of a "Britains knock-off" but I certainly have no problems because the new line includes more color schemes and much more variety. The new owner, Enrique d S G, has done a fine job keeping the brand alive, respecting what came before while making changes to enhance miniature figure collecting overall. Sets consist of generally six figures with a couple of different sculpts and paint schemes. The only drawback is the shipping cost. Rabid toy collectors like me know just how pricey it can be to buy anything from South America and these are no exception. For that reason my collecting is a tad slow waiting for funds to be available. As an example, this 6 figure set is sent in a small envelope and cost ~$15 to ship here Stateside! With an average cost of $15 per set that makes it a $30 expenditure. It is totally NOT the fault of the sellers. Like sellers anywhere, they are dependent on the postal rates set by their country. Okay, that being siad, over the next few days I'm going to post the three different types of figures included in this set. They all have the same colored tunic but one figure has white drawers. two figures have arched bows while the third has what I believe is long Bow (I really need to start looking this stuff up) :-) Enjoy!
