Venturing Out Amid The Pandemic

Yesterday, for the first time in over three weeks we ventured out of the house to go shopping. I had been waiting for masks to arrive that I had ordered on-line and they came in at the beginning of the week.. And really, we did have food and supplies so there was no rush to do anything other than to relieve a bad case of cabin fever! The roads were busier than I expected and the stores, while busy, weren't crowded. Not everyone was wearing a mask but people were polite and engaging in 'social distancing' as much as possible. Every store had either red tape or specially made signs affixed to the floors to delineate 6ft 'social distancing' measures.

At first only my youngest daughter and myself went out and after coming home to unload groceries and supplies Bettina joined us for round 2. It was a bit surreal I must say and as very few people alive today can attest to what it was like during the last pandemic, this was new for all of us. Things like toilet paper, paper towels, wipes of all kinds (baby wipes, hand wipes, Clorox/Lysol wipes), hand soaps and sanitizers were all limited to 1 or 2 per guest depending on what the item was. We did manage to pick up small packages of TP because the shelves were pretty much picked clean and there was no hand sanitizer but there was still hand soap - good 'nuff for guvmint work!

Unfortunately, the particular supermarket I went to for the bulk of the food items is a bit expensive. I knew that beforehand but it is also the closest one to the house (beside the Nellis AFB Commissary which I don't now have access to). We'll try to venture out again next week and let ya know how that went. Enjoy and Stay Safe! Opa Fritz

  1. It is all rather surreal isn't it Ed! And the few selfish types are only made more obvious by the care others around them are taking.

    1. Some of the problem MIGHT be that people can't find masks anywhere in local stores (I haven't seen any) and I can only guess that they have ordered theirs on-line and are waiting (which i've found out takes awhile) or perhaps don't know where to go on-line to get them. Bettina wouldn't know how to order anything on-line - she's never done it!
